Osaka Restaurant, Reading
Craft modern Japanese food restaurant and bar that caters to daytime shoppers, individuals, families and destination for special occasion. Restaurant should have private dining room. We were approached with an unusual request to create large table that will be used for dating. We love challenge.
Experience the allure of Japanese culinary artistry at Osaka, the newly transformed restaurant occupying the prime double-fronted space at Oracle Shopping Centre in Reading. Replacing Café Rouge, our Japanese-inspired restaurant showcases an exquisite design that seamlessly blends modern aesthetics with traditional Japanese charm.
Our journey began with a meticulous transformation, stripping back the restaurant and bar space while preserving its core structure and two glazed facades that open to both the bustling shopping mall and the tranquil River Kennet on Canalside.
As you step into Osaka, the rhythmic design aesthetic immediately captivates. Modern Geisha illustrations, beautifully fusing contemporary and traditional Japanese elements, grace every corner of the restaurant and bar.
Discover distinct zones within the restaurant, including the main room featuring a unique 6m dating table, private dining spaces, and a raised-level bar. A delicate wavy rope screen, inspired by Osaka’s Yodo River, not only defines seating areas but also provides enchanting illumination.
Our designers have crafted bespoke fixtures, such as wooden seating pods and a dating table with a central concrete light fixture, exclusively for Osaka. Collaborating with furniture company, we designed bench seating for couples, adorned with plain seats trimmed with a single red stripe, a nod to the Japanese Mizuhi tradition of gift wrapping with red rope.
Explore a carefully curated palette featuring traditional oak, preformed concrete panels, white marble surfaces, and the timeless black charred timber of Shou Sugi Ban. Lighting is artfully orchestrated with oversized paper lanterns from Scandinavian brand &Tradition, Ginger lights by Joan Gaspar, and task lighting by Delta Light and Linea Light.
The Japanese influence subtly permeates every detail of Osaka’s interior, where bespoke-designed furniture and fittings reflect an unwavering commitment to craftsmanship. Our design ethos projects a contemporary, creative, and confident tone, perfectly aligning with Osaka restaurant’s innovative twist on classic Japanese dishes.
