Gotto Trattoria, Hackney Wick, London
Peter Hughes and Andrea Mantovani, the team behind Soho’s Mele e Pere employed restaurant design services of Blenheim Design for Here East site, in Olympic Park.
Gotto is an expression in the Veronese dialect which means “going out for a bite to eat and a glass of wine with friends” – which neatly sums up the relaxed ambience of the new eatery.
Real Italian food and artisan Vermouth take centre stage in the design of Gotto – Hackney Wick’s trattoria, where a welcoming environment with an air of casual chic is highlighted by imaginatively original features.
We were keen to create a welcoming and casual atmosphere with a positive nod to neighbouring Hackney’s innovative and artistic culture. The overall interior feel is industrial, inviting and comfortable whilst incorporating imaginative use of found, recycled materials and solid durable furniture.
Unpretentious, the 70-cover trattoria is designed around open kitchen located behind a zinc topped counter.
Natural elements like timber and leather intertwine with reclaimed Italian tiles, punctuated by vibrant graffiti mural by the local artist.
“The design reflects the menu of real honest Italian food with authentic traditional dishes using only fresh produce which is in season – and not a single standard pizza or pasta dish in sight!”
